Trying something new

I started my own website myspinningplates.com  for all of my random interests and amusements.  I'm having fun trying to expand my limited web capabilities. I would love some feedback from my awesome LJ friends.

"They were livin' in their car. Of course the preacher didn't know they weren't married or he wouldn't have helped them."

And for the life of me I can't figure out why some people hate organized religion.

I was so amused by this opening last night. :)

Last night I was on the top of Sand Mountain having a few beers and some delicious curry with a guy from South Africa and his wife, a Brit, and a couple from Bristol who I hadn't met when I actually lived in Bristol. I was very amused with the whole situation.

From the great mind of Dan Savage:

Canada's unofficial "Minister of Family Values," member of parliament Toews—surprise!—doesn't like the gays because we're a threat to the family and the institution of marriage. Toews has described gay marriage ceremonies as satanic "Black Masses," and insisted that adding gays and lesbians to existing Canadian civil rights statutes would bring the "jackboot of fascism [down] on the necks of our people."

You know where this is going, right?

It turned out that Toews—who once warned that gay marriage could lead to polygamy—was cheating on his wife of 25 years. After getting a much younger woman pregnant, Toews wound up getting divorced. Another marriage destroyed not by gays stomping around in fabulous jackboots, but by yet another straight "Christian" bigot slamming his d*ck into someone who isn't his wife.

Marriage is about always having someone to mess with

Me: Hey, when we get our tax return can I have $500 of it to use at my discretion?

PA: What do you want?

Me: Discretionary stuff. I'm going to buy lots of discretion.

PA: I'd probably let you get it anyway. I just want to know what you're getting.

Me: Think of it as a bonus for all my hard work. *gesturing to messy room*

PA: *sigh*Fine.

Hee, hee. It kills him not know something. (Btw, I'm getting a new garage door opener and a brush cutter. Woohoo!)

Later...

Me: I'm trying to get all the stuff ready for their Valentine parties so I don't have to rush in the morning.

PA: Ain't no party like a Valentine party...

Me: 'Cuz a Valentine party don't stop. </booty shakin> Gah, why do you do that to me?

PA: Because I know you can't help yourself.

Things I love about Christmas

For [info]solfox  and [info]moriarty6

I love hanging the stockings on the bookcase with care.

I love the smell of the real tree. I love getting the sap on my hands because, now that I'm too old to spend my time climbing trees, it's the only time of year it happens.

I love listening to little man read the latest opening on the Advent calendar.

I love having the house covered in lights. Dad came over this year and climbed to the top of an extension ladder with a drill, b/c Gin needs icicle lights on second story, too. :)

I love the little evergreen tree in the front yard that looks like a little christmas tree. It takes three extension cords to reach it, but it boasts some beautiful colored lights this time of year.

I love when the house finches hang from the icicle lights as they wait for their turn on the feeder.

I love how our neighbors bring the kids presents. They are so sweet and thoughtful.

I love the ornaments that the kids made in preschool. The school did a great job of making picture ornaments so I can see how the kids have changed from year to year.

I find that the birds are helping me fight off the winter doldrums this year. Over the summer I bought a bird bath and a tray feeder to go along with my regular feeder and suet feeder. Now I have even more species visiting than before. I'm still amused with the little brownheaded nuthatch that took me so long to identify. Eastern bluebirds come to visit and I stopped short today when I saw a red-winged blackbird at the tray feeder! The goldfinches are in their winter wardrobe, and the chickadees, nuthatches, and titmice are enjoying themselves. Thanks to [info]miz_geek I'm keeping the bird bath up this winter and it's very popular. It's nice to look out and see all the beautiful creatures despite the gray days.

It's very disconcerting having a cat that can tap me on the shoulder when I'm sitting in a chair.
